A veritable trove of Dolan Geiman’s signature collage motifs and techniques, Grand Lake Sketchbook offers a glimpse into the artist’s creative exploration through natural themes, pattern making and classic found paper materials. Primarily a landscape scene, this small work features a stately moose rendered in vintage papers, including antlers bedecked in handwritten letters salvaged from a relative’s long-forgotten steamer trunk.

Notice the quilt pattern in the upper right quadrant – a nod to  – alongside toadstools that call back to . Through this amalgam of characters and elements peeks antique piano sheet music, highlighted with silk screen shapes pulled from Dolan’s woodshop. Mountain and clouds are layered in in carefully applied acrylic paint.
